Nominations for the Canadian Network of Community Land Trusts’ Board of Directors are currently open until October 12, 2024.

 

ROLE

  • The CNCLT Board of Directors provides a governance and oversight role for the growing network.
  • Serving as a Director is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of the fledgling network and overall growth of the CLT sector.

 

TERM LENGTH

  • CNCLT is seeking the election of four directors to serve two-year terms
  • Directors will be elected by membership during our 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on October 19th, 2024.
  • Directors may stand for re-election 2 more terms, after which they may not be a candidate for election to any seat for at least 1 year.

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Any person who is a Board director, staff, or representative of a CNCLT member in good standing may stand for election.

 

ELECTION PROCESS

  • Upon reception of a completed application, the Board will assess whether candidates have the experience and qualifications required of Directors.
  • Only candidates who successfully completed the nominations process will be presented for election at the AGM.
  • Voting members will elect 4 Directors to the board.
  • Nominations will not be accepted from the floor at the AGM.

Detailed Description of the Role

 

The Board of Directors are responsible for providing overall direction to Canadian Network of Community Land Trusts (CNCLT). CNCLT’s staff support the Board.

 

DUTIES

  • Provide oversight on implementation of strategic directions for CNCLT
  • Participate in developing governance policies and strategic plans
  • Attend approximately six meetings of the Board of Directors on an annual basis, plus the annual conference, Annual General Meeting, and training/orientation session.
  • Participate in at least one of the Board’s committees (e.g. executive, finance, governance).
  • Assist CNCLT in recruiting and maintaining members of the network.

 

TIME COMMITMENT

  • Directors will serve two-year terms.
  • Directors should prepare to invest 4 to 5 days per year on board duties.
  • 90-minute board meetings are held every other month, on Zoom, on weekdays during standard business hours.
  • The annual schedule will be approved at the first meeting.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for individuals with:

  • A strong commitment to the CLT sector
  • Leadership experience within the CLT sector, or non-profit housing sector more broadly
  • An ability to think strategically on behalf of the CLT sector broadly
  • In depth knowledge of various topics related to CLT development and operations (e.g., financial planning, community development, advocacy, organizational development, real estate development and acquisitions)
  • Operational or technical expertise, or lived experience, relevant to community land trusts
